What is BWRT® (BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®)?

BWRT® is a modern, science-based psychological approach created by UK psychotherapist Terence Watts.

It works directly with the brain’s automatic responses....the patterns that drive anxiety, fear, habits and emotional reactions.

Unlike many traditional approaches, BWRT does not require you to spend hours analysing or repeatedly talking about the problem.

Instead, we focus on:

  • what you want to change

  • and how your brain is currently responding

This allows change to happen quickly, safely, and effectively.

HOW BWRT WORKS

How Does BWRT Work?

Your brain is constantly scanning your environment and deciding how to respond....often before you are consciously aware of it.

For example, if someone throws a ball towards you, you instinctively react before you’ve had time to think.

The same process happens with:

  • anxiety

  • fear

  • emotional triggers

  • habits and behaviours

These responses are automatic, and often outdated.

BWRT works by:

  • identifying the automatic response

  • interrupting that pattern

  • replacing it with a more helpful outcome

The change happens before the reaction fully reaches conscious awareness

Which means:

  • you don’t have to “fight” the feeling

  • you don’t have to manage it

  • it simply changes

WHY IT WORKS SO WELL

Why BWRT is Different

Many approaches work with your response after you feel anxious, triggered or overwhelmed.

BWRT works:
Before the reaction fully takes hold

This is why clients often experience:

  • fast change

  • lasting results

  • fewer sessions

Most issues are resolved in 1–6 sessions, depending on complexity.

THE LEVELS OF BWRT

Working at All Levels of BWRT

As an Accredited BWRT® Level 3 Practitioner, I am trained to work across all levels of the method, from straightforward issues to more complex, long-standing patterns.

Level 1 – Psychopathology

Focused on specific issues such as:

  • anxiety and stress

  • phobias and fears

  • PTSD

  • performance anxiety

  • fear of failure

Often resolved in a small number of sessions.

Level 2 – Core Identity Work

Designed for deeper, more complex patterns such as:

  • addictive behaviours

  • emotional eating

  • low self-esteem

  • identity-based patterns

  • long-standing emotional difficulties

Level 3 – Advanced Psychophysiology

This is the most advanced level of BWRT, working with the mind–body connection.

It is used to support clients experiencing:

  • chronic conditions

  • autoimmune responses

  • long-term health-related challenges

  • stress-related physical symptoms

The focus is on reducing the psychological and emotional drivers that can impact the body’s functioning.

Important:

This is not a medical treatment or cure, but a way of supporting your system to respond differently and more effectively.
